South American signings

-

MLS is increasingly becoming a destination for talented young South Americans, with more and more clubs getting in on the act.

The biggest transfer during the off-season has been that of 21-year-old Brazilian striker Brenner, who joined FC Cincinnati from Sao Paulo for $13 million (around £9.5m).

In the past, such a player may have gone to Europe with the aim of reaching the Champions League, or another big club in South America.

Atlanta United have previously made waves in this market too, paying seven-figure fees for Marcelino Moreno (Lanus), Erik Lopez (Olimpia) and Santiago Sosa (River Plate), and adding forward Lisandro Lopez from Racing Club.
