On the radar
(RB Leipzig)
While Bayern-bound Dayot Upamecano has grabbed plenty of headlines as one of the most wanted players in Europe, his fellow Frenchman in RB Leipzig’s defence is just as highly rated. That’s why Liverpool have reportedly agreed to pay his €40 million release clause ahead of the summer’s transfer window.
Konate, who turns 22 in May, joined Leipzig from Sochaux in 2017 and has played over 60 Bundesliga games for the German side. In the mould of many modern centre-backs, he combines impressive athleticism with strong defensive attributes, while also being extremely comfortable in possession. In March he started alongside Sevilla’s Jules Kounde for France in the U21 Euros, yet he is also eligible to play for Mali.
If a move to Anfield does fall through, a move elsewhere is still highly likely with a string of suitors lining up to sign him.
