Sancho eyes Manchester United’s historic No.7 shirt

-

Jadon Sancho has reportedly requested Manchester United’s iconic No.7 shirt after completing his £73 million move from Borussia Dortmund.

Edinson Cavani, who signed a one-year extension at Old Trafford towards the end of last season, is the current incumbent of the shirt famously worn by the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, and will need to be persuaded to give it up for Sancho.

The deal for the 21-year-old makes him the second-most expensive English player of all time – after Harry Maguire’s £85m move to United from Leicester City in 2019 – and concludes a long-running saga that saw Dortmund resist offers for at least a year. Turn to page 18 for more transfer updates.
