New international competition in the pipeline
Plans are underway for a new “International Super Cup” to be played between the winners of the European Championship and the Copa America.
Talks have reportedly taken place between UEFA and CONMEBOL, the confederations responsible for organising the two tournaments, while FIFA are also said to be keen for a new competition to effectively replace their Confederations Cup, which was abolished in 2019. If the plans are approved, the first edition is likely to be in 2025 – one year before the 2026 World Cup in USA
– and featuring the winners of Euro
2024 and the 2024 Copa America.
