A 3-0 win against Turkey in Euro 2020’s opening game set the tone for Italy’s tournament as Roberto Mancini’s side stormed their way through, coming out on top in a semi-final thriller against Spain before defeating England on their own turf at Wembley in the final. Their forwards shared out the goals while midfield trio Nicolo Barella, Marco Verratti and Jorginho were key, as was full-back Leonardo Spinazzola prior to injury. There was a sense of new attacking vigour which, when combined with wily defending and game management – epitomised by experienced duo Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellino – made Italy unstoppable.
