Mick BATES
(1947-2021)
A key member of Don Revie’s allconquering Leeds United team of the late 1960s and early ’70s, Bates’ finest moment in a white shirt came in the 1971 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final. He came off the bench to hit the equaliser in a first-leg 2-2 draw with Juventus, and the goal proved decisive as Leeds lifted the trophy on the away goals rule. In total Bates made 191 appearances for the Whites, and also won the 1972 FA Cup and 1973-74 First Division title.
