Intercontinental play-off agreed

UEFA and CONMEBOL have agreed to stage a one-off clash between their respective continental champions, Italy and Argentina.

While the exact date and venue are yet to be confirmed, the fixture will take place in June 2022. The initial agreement will see three editions of the game played, with the potential for more if they prove successful.

The two confederations are seeking closer ties as they stand against FIFA’s proposals for a biennial World Cup (more on page 14).
