Never too late
‘Writing a novel was always my dream but having failed miserably at an all girl’s grammar school, I never thought that I’d be good enough,’ writes subscriber Caroline James.
‘Instead of taking a literary route, I followed a career in the hospitality industry, which eventually included owning a pub and country house hotel – revolving doors where one never knew who was going to enter or what would happen and inspired many fictional scenarios. For several years I was also a media agent, running an agency that represented celebrity chefs. Again, I was never short of material for a book but I had no confidence to put pen to paper. Then, in my mid-fifties, I had an epiphany – write a novel or die wondering? It motivated me to glue my rear to a chair at every available moment, whilst running a business, caring for a family and being responsible for my mum who suffered from dementia. I snatched hours late at night and early morning and words began to flow.
‘Four years ago, I walked out of my life, selling my home and travelling. My confidence was at an all-time low, but during this time I wrote The Best Boomerville Hotel, which has been described as ‘Britain’s answer to the Marigold Hotel,’ followed up with my latest novel, Boomerville at Ballymegille. Now, several novels in, my writing dream has come true and I’ve gained many
Amazon bestseller badges for my “funny and inspiring books”. I am both traditionally published and self-published and run a company that inspires, helps, and enables budding authors.
‘I also trained to become a public speaker, something I thought I’d never have the confidence to do and my message is, that it is never too late to live your writing dream.’
