Lucent Dreaming is a UK print and online quarterly publishing ‘beautiful, strange and surreal short stories, poetry and artwork’ from writers worldwide.

They team like ‘fiction that is readable and surreal, especially writing that embraces and explores inner-lives’. They insist that writers read a copy or two before submitting to get a feel for the kind of writing they enjoy. Doing so will prevent writers from making the error of submitting ‘Zombies, vampires, werewolves, especially sexy ones’ and ‘Elves, dwarves, and other fantasy scenarios that come across as LOTR

fan fiction or any fan fiction’. No reprints, multiple or simultaneous subs please.

The next issue’s theme is ‘Retellings – new tales for new times’. Submit fiction, 1,500-3,999 words, as a doc/docx file. Poetry, up to 56 lines, may be surreal, experimental, or evocative but all poems should explore the themes of identity, innerlives and society. Prose poetry, SF and speculative poetry are also welcome but all the poems should make a reader think and feel. Flash fiction, 400-1,000 words, should be ‘readable and surreal.’ Non-fiction, 1,500-3,000 words, may be essays, creative think pieces, general literary critiques/analyses, journals/journal entries, letters to the editor, creative nonfiction, all are welcome.
