Write with Moxy
UK creative non-fiction journal Moxy is in the market for pieces of criticism, essays, travel writing and personal essays from writers of all backgrounds. ‘We think a diverse array of voices makes for a better magazine,’ say guidelines. Submissions should not have been previously published although it is acceptable if your piece has been published in a print issue which is not available online.
The general word count for submissions is 1,0004,000 words although anything longer or shorter can be discussed. Format your work as a doc file with UK spellings and grammar. If submitting more than one article or proposal send these in separate emails.
Editors ask that you be attentive to ‘concrete details which show an awareness of specificities. Above all generalisations, clichés and banalities should be avoided.’ If you are not entirely sure as to what counts as creative non-fiction the website has examples of travel writing, memoir, essay and art criticism with the editors’ preferences. To give an even better idea the magazine is free to read online.
The magazine is open to proposals as well as finished pieces and you can make contact with a pitch or an idea using the form on the website or by email. A proposal should be a onepage A4 piece giving an idea of the overall themes, tone and structure of your piece in as much detail as possible.
