BIG PRIZE FOR A COMEDY PLAY

Full length original comedy plays for theatre are invited for the Liverpool Hope Playwritin­g Prize which has a prize of £10,000 for the winner and considerat­ion for production at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre. There is also a highly commended prize of £3,000. Shortliste­d writers may request feedback.

The competitio­n is open to writers resident in the UK, Republic of Ireland, British Overseas Territorie­s and writers with a British Forces Post Office address.

Plays, written in English, should have a running time of over eighty minutes with an interval indicated and require no more than eight actors. No submission should have been published or profession­ally performed at Equity rates or be under option at another theatre or production company. You must have exclusive ownership of copyright and your play must be available for immediate production.

Judges for the competitio­n are Les Dennis, John Bennett, Maurice Bessman, Kate Haldane of PJB Management and Kate Wasserberg, artistic director of Out of Joint Theatre Company.

As judging will be anonymous do not include your name or any other personal personal identifica­tion on your script. Include page numbers in the header or footer and the title on the first page. Submit as a doc, docx, pdf or txt document with a maximum file size of 1mb. You may upload up to eight individual 1mb files.

Submit your script together with a cover sheet and an elevator pitch of 75-100 words which acts as an ‘audience teaser’ and gives a succinct summary of your play.
