Love Patchworld & Quilting is a modern quilting magazine edited by Lorna Slessor. It features step-by-step projects for quilters at every skill level. Most of the magazine consists of quilt patterns, so it’s very instruction heavy. Commissioned content includes a column, which is always written by a quilter from the modern community, and occasional features that are usually written by quilters too. Lorna would consider contributions from writers if the right feature was pitched. All written content is paid.

Love Embroidery, edited by Rachel Wood, gives modern stitchers all the information they need to create fresh, contemporary embroidery projects. Approx 80% of the content is project-based, so these tend to be physically designed and stitched items with instructions and step-by-step photos. Rachel is always happy to hear from new contributors who are able to not only write instructions clearly but also physically make the items.

Love Embroidery also has regular interviews, designer profiles and occasionally one-off features that come from pitches. Rachel welcomes pitches from freelancers, but asks them to bear in mind the incredibly niche nature of the craft covered by the magazine – for example, if you approach with a pitch about cross stitching or crochet, they simply won’t be interested, even though it might seem like a similar craft. All written content is paid.
