Non-fic fits write in
‘As an avid reader and subscriber to Writing Magazine I have been keenly following the imposter debate and reading and digesting all the top tips offered and hearing about authors’ writing styles,’ writes Teresa Burdett.
‘However, as a non-fiction writer I have always had the fear and belief that as I am not creative, I am not a “real” writer. However, non-fiction writers are often specialists in their own field and write with passion to educate, share, disseminate knowledge and engage with their readers and colleagues in a variety of formats.
‘I have had the great pleasure of being the guest lead editor for a special issue for the Journal of Integrated Care. This special issue discusses person-centred care and care integration and is the culmination of two years’ work and has brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, populations, and geographical regions. The support I received to create this special issue and the interest of the people wanting to be part of the publication was phenomenal. I have also had a number of articles published as well as speaking internationally. So now I feel it is the time to stop muttering quietly “I am a writer” under my breath but step up and say yes, I am a non-fiction writer.
‘What next, with my newly found confidence? More articles, and a book in the arena of person-centred integrated care – but for now I will enjoy the feeling of believing that I am a writer.
‘Do feel free to get in touch with me about this topic or like-minded topics such as improving patient care and working together.’
