GLOBAL NON-FICTION MARKET

Good news only

- Gary Dalkin

Positive News says it is the first media organisation in the world that is dedicated to quality, independent reporting about what’s going right. The title pioneers ‘constructive journalism’ – a new approach in the media, which is about rigorous and relevant journalism focused on progress, possibility, and solutions.

Positive News publishes daily online and a print magazine quarterly. Editor-in-chief Lucy Purdy would like to receive pitches for news or features that showcase the best examples of progress and possibility anywhere in the world. Reporting should be rigorous, with a focus on solutions – ‘proper, quality journalism but through a lens of what’s going right’. PN receives a lot of pitches for profiles of individuals and organisations, but this isn’t what they want. Give them ‘sparky’ ideas for articles with social relevance and independence voices and/or data, preferably covering topics the magazine hasn’t addressed before – so explore the archive at www.positive.news

Your pitch should outline your proposed story in a few paragraphs while giving a flavour of it. Outline how you would structure and execute the piece, how you would tell it, and what data/research you would include.

Indicate why the story is important, timely and relevant. Note that stories should inform, entertain and inspire with insight, clarity and flair, be thoughtprovoking, impeccably researched and wellwritten. Include a bit of background about yourself and your writing experience and email your pitch to editorial@positive.news

This non-profit media cooperative pays 30p per word to an agreed commissioned word count. Download the full pitching guidelines in PDF format at: https:// positive.news/positive-news-pitching-guide/
