GLOBAL FICTION MARKET

Fantasy fiction wanted

- Gary Dalkin

Now up to its 71st monthly issue, Fantasy Magazine is the digital sister publication to science fiction magazine Lightspeed and horror title Nightmare, all published by John Joseph Adams via Adamant Press. Normally Fantasy is open to submissions for the first week of each month, but has been closed recently and is planning to reopen on 1 January.

The editors Christie Yant and Arley Sorg say all types of fantasy and dark fantasy are welcome. No subject should be considered off-limits, and they encourage writers to take chances and push the envelope. If you’re not sure whether your story is fantasy (vs horror or science fiction) go ahead and submit and let the editors decide.

They will consider short stories up to 7,500 words, though under 5,000 is preferred, and flash fiction up to 1,500 words. No simultaneous or multiple submissions. All submissions must be original. The editors will consider stories previously rejected by Lightspeed or Nightmare. Payment is 8¢ per word. Poetry also accepted, and you can submit up to six poems in a single document at one time. Payment is $40 per poem. Only submit one entry per category at a time. Send any enquiries to editors@fantasy-magazine.com. Be sure to follow the full guidelines at https://adamant.moksha.io/publication/fantasy/guidelines then use the submission engine on that page to upload your work. Include a cover letter with your name and contact details, length of your story and any publishing history and other relevant information. Your manuscript should not contain any identifying information and must be submitted as an rtf, doc or docx file.

Translations of stories that have never been published in English will be considered. No media-based or fan fiction. Sexual themes and stories with strong sexual content are acceptable, but Fantasy is not a market for erotica.
