Open door at Brigids Gate

-

Brigids Gate Press has an editorial team ‘focused on looking for, nurturing, and promoting new and under-represented voices in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry’. Currently they seek submissions of novellas or full length novels. They want horror, science fiction, fantasy, crime fiction/mysteries, and stories based on fairy tales, myths, or folklore. However, they will consider other genres. Read their list, check their guidelines and follow them.

Submit by email a synopsis, a list of trigger warnings if needed, the first chapter, and full contact details. Put ‘Unsolicited and Novel/Novella Submissions’ in the email subject line.

The team also publish anthologies and currently are looking for stories for a charity anthology. The theme is unusual. The editors want writers to search out ‘vintage’ advertisements – that is at least fifty years old – that appear ‘shocking, weird, and downright funny when viewed with a contemporary eye’ to use as an inspiration or prompt. Submissions can be horror, science fiction, fantasy, or crime fiction. They can also be a mashup of two or more genres.

Submit a story or poem as a doc file by email: submissions@brigidsgatepress.com

Don’t forget full contact details, title of submission, word count, and a working email address on the first page of the submission. Stories, 1,000 to 4,000 words and poems, no more than 350 words, should not be gory, nothing graphic or explicit please.

No sim subs, or reprints, but multiple submissions will be accepted, that is up to three stories or three poems, but only one story or poem will be chosen. Put ‘Vintage Ad Anthology’ in the subject line of the email.

Deadline is 31 December. Response time is ‘slow to reasonable’. Writers receive an ebook of the anthology but there is no payment as all proceeds are destined for the International Rescue Committee.
