Writing Magazine presents a selection of current submission calls from Speculative fiction publishers. We strongly recommend that you read back issues, familiarise yourself with their guidelines before submitting and check websites for submission details.
Scary Dairy Press is inviting submissions of short fiction between 2,000 and 5,000 words for an anthology of horror tales of rock music. All submissions must combine creepy horror with a rock song theme from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Stories must not include lyrics but it should be clear what the song is that’s inspired the story. Stories should be horror, but may include elements of speculative fiction, dark fiction, dark fantasy, sci-fi or bizarro. Accepted stories will be paid 3¢ per word. The closing date is 1 December. Writer Julie Bozza, the author of a Queer Weird West novel Writ in
Blood, is inviting submissions for an anthology of hybrid short stories for a forthcoming anthology, Queer
Weird West Tales.
Submissions must include each of the following elements: at least one character who is LGBTQI+; a speculative fiction element (fantasy, horror, sci-fi), and an Old West setting. Send stories between 3,000 and 10,000 words. Accepted stories will be paid a fee between $30 and $50.

Devil’s Party Press is inviting submissions of winter-themed work for its Solstice 2022 anthology. Submit poems, short stories and literary non-fiction on the theme of Northern Lights, candles against the darkness, the rolling year, spirits and warm hearths. Interstellar Flight Press has a call for submissions for SFF short story collections. The guest editor for this call is African specfic author Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki, and is open to up and coming authors with a track record of publication in SFF journals, authors of unpublished works and for translated works. Submit short story collections with total word counts between 30,000 and 100,000 words. Accepted authors will be paid royalties. The closing date is 31 December. Little Thorn Books publishes weird, fantastical and feminist books, and is inviting submissions of novella-length Victoriana, gothic, streampunk, magic realism and supernatural stories for adults Submissions should be between 10,000 and 35,000 words. US indie Blackspot Books is inviting anthology submissions of horror stories by women writers for Into the Forest: Tales of the Baba Yaga. Send stories inspired by and featuring the Baba Yaga between 1,000 and 5,000 words. Some slots in the anthology will be filled by invited contributors.
