A new model
Zibby Books is the newest addition to Zibby Owens Media. Co-founders book podcaster Zibby Owens and publishing veteran Leigh Newman have developed Zibby Books ‘to re-conceptualise the connection between authors and readers’. A keen reader and writer herself Zibby saw an opportunity ‘to change the current paradigm to help authors… and reimagine publishing’s long-standing business model’. Her editorial team believe that their ‘strategies across author deals, bookselling, marketing, and community will hopefully help move publishing into the 21st century and benefit all authors.’
They want to publish fiction and memoir ‘from debut and established authors with a commitment to diverse literary voices’. Rather than use and rely on celebrities to promote books, Zibby hopes ‘to call on other bestselling and established authors to give back and lift up individual titles from inception to publication’. These author ‘Book Champions,’ receive an equity stake in their Zibby Book and mentor the author along the way.’ She reasons that authors recognise good writing as well as, if not better than, publishers and an authorinfluencer network can show that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The editorial team are all published authors.
Submit by filling in the form on the website. Fiction and memoir are wanted from debut and established authors. They like ‘diverse voices and points-of-view’ and love original works with a ‘strong sense of place.’
Response time is ‘reasonable’. Authors receive advances and author royalties, and take part in the Profit Sharing Bonus Program: 75% of all net profits in each calendar year of Zibby Books is split in equal share between every employee and their authors.
