DJ is a monthly UK magazine and website dedicated to dance music and club culture. Pitches are welcomed for print and online pieces. For 2022, both magazine and website editors are looking for pitches for long-form articles (1,200-3,000 words) not based around a single artist, ie, reportage on culture or technology, a focus on an emerging sound, an opinion piece on a timely topic. They’re also interested in pitches about how Covid and Brexit continue to affect the industry. There are shorter feature slots in the magazine where pitches are also welcomed. List-based feature pitches are welcomed for the website. Payment varies.

Classic Pop and Vintage Rock magazines are Anthem Publishing magazines, both edited by Steve Harnell. Classic Pop covers pop and chart music between the late 1970s and late 1990s. Vintage Rock, which is the world’s best-selling rock’n’roll magazine, covers the golden era of rock’n’roll in the 1950s and 1960s, and the rockabilly revival of the 1980s. The readership of specialist music fans is knowledgeable and very detail-conscious. Artists are covered in an authoritative, informed way and most of the magazines’ content is time-sensitive, tied to new releases, anniversaries and major live shows. It’s important to Steve that feature content builds on readers’ current knowledge and offers them new information and perspectives. Word counts vary from 800-word Q&As to in-depth features up to 4,000 words. Steve is happy to hear from new freelances with ideas for features and interviews. Send ideas and pdfs of related previously published work.
