The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2022 is inviting entries of unperformed scripts.
The biennial prize from Bruntwood and Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre has a prize pot of £50,000
The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting is a major initiative to discover new voices and stories and to help playwrights hone their craft.
The 2022 prize is split across four categories:
• The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting (£16,000)
• The Judges’ Award (£8,000)
• The Bruntwood Prize International Prize (open to international entries who can apply through the Bruntwood Prize’s partners Atlantic Theatre (New York), Berkeley Rep (Berkeley, California), Australian Plays Transform (Carlton, New South Wales), Canada Banff Playwrights Laboratory (Banff, Canada).
• The North West Original New Voice Award and Residency (£8,000 plus a £10,000 for the winner’s professional development during a one-year residency). This is a new award for playwrights from the North West. To be eligible for this award, writers must not have had a full-length play professionally produced for 12 performances or more in a professional venue.
Each winner will enter into a development process with the Royal Exchange Theatre with the view of producing their script. The Top 100 Feedback List will receive full feedback on their script.
Enter original, unperformed and unproduced scripts with a running time of at least one hour. Scripts should be aimed at adult audiences and must be available for production and not attached to a theatre company.
Each writer may enter one script.
