Connect your script with a global audience
The Studio21 Drama Series Script Competition is open to submissions of an original pilot script for a television drama which would be of interest to audiences and co-producers worldwide.
All genres and themes will be considered but must be live action fiction. Animation and documentary projects are not eligible.
Entries are open to writers over the age of eighteen worldwide. Scripts must have been written in the last two years, in English. They should be 30-60 pages long and formatted to industry standards on numbered pages. Include your name and the title in the header or footer. Industry standard script formats can be found online and BBC WritersRoom has useful scriptwriting tips and standard script formatting guidelines: www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/ resources/
Your pilot script should be accompanied by a series treatment of 1-4 pages which has a one paragraph description at the top and contains your series concept and a brief description of the series beyond the pilot episode. You may also include a brief statement on your writing experience, why you wrote this idea, what makes it unique and what themes you are hoping to explore in the series.
Each entry should be accompanied by an industry reference from a professional currently working in the drama industry and this can include an experienced screenwriter or a screenwriting course tutor.
The closing date is quite soon, 30 September, and the winner will receive a £10,000 development option. ‘Studio 21 will connect the project with the right producer, platform, channel or partner’. There is an entry fee of £40.
There will be a short list of 21 scripts from which six finalists will be selected to present their scripts to an audience which will include global drama producers and commissioners and key digital platform commissioners at the three day C21 International Drama Summit as part of Content London at the end of November 2022. Finalists will be responsible for all their travel, accommodation and subsistence costs.
