The Book Folks
The Book Folks, part of Cold Peak Media Limited, is an independent UK publishing house specialising in gripping crime fiction and thrillers, writes Gary Dalkin.
The editorial team, based in London, is currently accepting unsolicited, unagented submissions and are predominantly interested in crime fiction, thrillers and mysteries, but will consider all proposals carefully. Their aim is to get ‘high quality ebooks and books by new authors out into the marketplace … offering very competitive royalties …’
In the first instance the Book Folk team ask that you contact them using the form at https://thebookfolks.com/publish/, giving your name and contact details, book genre and word count, and explaining something about yourself and your book. They say they ‘are always pleased to receive wellwritten and engaging fiction with a strong plot, good characterisation and a convincing setting.’
They are particularly interested in new authors with an eye to the market, who write with their prospective audience in mind. The company publishes first novels but they aim to develop a long-term partnership with authors aiming to have an ongoing writing career, stating that, ‘those having at least two or three books, written or planned, will be especially welcomed.’
Novels should have a minimum word count of 45,000, and while the editors are predominantly looking for new material, they will consider work that has been previously published elsewhere if you own the necessary rights. If you don’t hear back after a month, send a follow up enquiry to info@thebookfolks.com
