THE HISTORY OF FINAL FANTASY

XBox: The Official Magazine - - START -

Final Fantasy XV’s director Hajime Tabata tells us that one of his team’s core aims was to “recreate the good elements from the past series using the latest technology”. But what exactly are those elements? Look over the last 29 years of Final Fantasy games and you’ll discover a series in constant flux, one that reinvents itself from game to game and that has thrown away ideas most developers would build their entire career on. Yes, there are trends - mages, cactuars and those daft chocobos - but the games that frame these icons show an experimental drive that is increasingly rare in a world of eye-watering budgets. So here we celebrate that variety, from Final Fantasy I to XIV. Enjoy!
