Craft­ing gear and weaponry has been a key com­po­nent in BioWare’s games over the years, but the sys­tem has never ap­peared in a Mass Ef­fect game – un­til now. You won’t just be able to forge what­ever you fancy from the get-go, though; you’ll have to do your re­search first. So, en­gage in a few bust-ups with An­dromeda’s res­i­dent mea­nies, the Kett, and you might be able to scav­enge enough alien tech to fig­ure out how their pow­er­ful plasma weapons work. At this stage you’ll be able to craft and name your own Kett-in­spired firearms and dole them out to your ap­pre­cia­tive team. And, thanks to the return of melee weapons (last seen in Mass Ef­fect 3’ s mul­ti­player modes) you’ll also be able to craft mighty Kro­gan ham­mers and fear­some space-aged blades with which to slice up your alien foes. That said, the An­dromeda team has been keen to em­pha­sise that craft­ing won’t be a ne­ces­sity for cam­paign suc­cess – it’s more of an op­tional ex­tra for es­pe­cially in­trepid ex­plor­ers.
