Introducing the world of Sea Of Thieves in a new passive medium might remove the agency you get from playing the game itself, but that hasn’t stopped Whitley and talented artist Rhoald Marcellius from kicking off these companion adventures with the kind of chairsmashing, grog-spilling action you’d expect from a bunch of thieving no-good pirates.

“We (naturally) had to start the whole thing off with a bar fight, because it’s a pirate story,” he explains, in regards to the series’ opening issue. “As we’ve played the game, the thing that’s evolved the most is that we’ve been able to feature real areas of the game and bring in the hazards that players will face. Beyond that, I think we’ve been able to bring some of Rare’s sense of humour into the comics. That was always part of what set Rare games apart for me growing up with them and I wanted to make sure we brought that to the comics.”
