You may argue that the last thing the world needs is yet another military game. But Cannon-Fodder wasn’t just another military game. For a start – as the name hinted – it took a subtle but sustained pop at the futility of war. Gameplay-wise, it was near-perfect: its squad-based missions saw your soldiers heavily outnumbered and not overendowed with ammo, so you’d have to use everything at your disposal, like jeeps and rocketlaunchers, in a focused, tactical manner. Its top-down viewpoint probably wouldn’t work these days, but it could make a great third-person shooter.
