Resurrecting a 1987 Atari arcade game may sound like madness. But Road Blasters felt years ahead of its time. And it had such a bonkers premise that it would seem incredibly original compared with its modern peers. It put you at the wheel of a nuclearpowered car negotiating check-pointed tracks littered with deadly obstacles. To get to the end of each stage, you would also have to collect balloons containing nuclear fuel. And it had a turbo-boost that accelerated you to about 300mph, at which point avoiding obstacles became a matter of sheer luck and guesswork. Still by far the best driving-and-shooting game ever made.
