Publisher EA | Developer EA Block Box | Format Xbox 360 | Release 2007

Tony Hawk’s virtual skateboarding revolution pre-dated the original Xbox by two years – but when Skate once more rewrote the ollie, grind ’n’ grab rulebook in 2007, Microsoft’s machine was front and centre. One major change underpinned EA Black Box’s skating revolution: moving the central control scheme from face buttons to analogue sticks, via the ‘Flickit’ system.

Everything was contextual and physics-based, so your stick movements required you to react in real time, modifying tricks based on your character’s balance and the environment around you. Top stuff.
