Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Halo was always going to appear on this list, but choosing a single title as the best is just too darn difficult, so we cheated and chose Halo: The Master Chief Collection instead. Halo: Combat Evolved didn’t just prove that you could do great first-person shooters on consoles, but it created a science fiction story that was much more compelling than people initially thought and set a solid foundation for the rest of the franchise. Then there’s Halo2 which single-handedly changed the world of competitive online multiplayer forever, specifically in the way it handled player matchmaking. It was so impressive Microsoft sought Bungie’s expertise in the development of its Xbox Live service. Halo:TMCC brings together remastered versions of Halo1-4 and contains 45 campaign missions and over 100 multiplayer and Spartan Ops maps, and owning it is essential.
