Will it journey to the centre of your heart?
Shedworks/ Raw Fury
2020 Anyone still not over thatgamecompany’s slight on Xbox-kind back in 2012 when Journey released exclusively on PS3 might be in for some catharsis with Sable. It’s a game about solitude and desert exploration, and gives the player breathing room to take in its visuals without showering them in map markers and voiceovers. There are some definite similarities, then.
But the particulars of Shedworks’ game do assert a different kind of character. The art style is all about clean lines, apparently inspired by French and Belgian 20th century comics and Studio Ghibli. And we spied a vehicle in its E3 2019 reveal that looks an awful lot like a
Star Wars pod racer. If that’s not worth getting a bit of sand between your toes for, what is? The soundtrack comes courtesy of ethereal art rocker Japanese Breakfast, which is great news for anyone who drinks their filter coffee strictly without milk because it ruins the cherry notes.
ABOVE The desert worlds in Sable really remind us of Star Wars.
