Club class all the way
I was thinking about the declining membership numbers for many sailing clubs. We are members of Portchester Sailing Club, at the top of Portsmouth Harbour, and have been since buying our boat about 18 months ago. The club is fabulous and means we can run our Seawolf 30 on a relative shoestring: a pile mooring is £280 per year, winter storage ashore is £100, lift in and out is around £200.
With the club’s facilities, benefits and membership costs, compared to commercial operators’ prices, I’m not sure how aware the sailing community is of how rewarding and affordable sailing clubs make boat ownership.
