Taking this route to North Harbour involves the passage of Gascanane Sound, between Sherkin and Cape. The Sound is subject to 3-knot tides at Springs, turning north an hour or so before HW at Cobh (the nearest Standard Port), and has some interesting obstacles including Gascanane Rock, which dries a metre and a half but
