Would she suit you and your crew?

-

You don’t need to race to enjoy speed. After all, few fast cars ever make it onto a racetrack. However, having the option of sailing faster increases your range and opens up cruising grounds further afield, or you can cover your usual distances in less time.

She might not be ideal for an elderly couple sailing alone, but she has exceptional passage-making potential and there’s no need for crew weight on the rail. If you’re reasonably agile, you could have a lot of fun cruising in the fast lane and maybe dabbling in round-the-cans or offshore racing.

If you’ve had cruising boat for a few years and feel the need for speed, or want a yacht to improve your sail-trimming and boat-handling skills, the J/112e is a sensible step up without compromising on luxuries you may have become used to. There is nothing radical about her interior; it’s comfortable, stylish and practical. It’s good to see that J-Boats hasen’t crammed as many berths as possible into this slippy hull, so there’s still the large locker space aft, which is eminently practical for cruising. It’s true that she doesn’t have the interior volume of many production boats, but they don’t have her performance.
