What’s she like to sail?

-

The J/112e is a great boat to sail, she’s fun, fast and comfortable. While not the lightest on the helm, she obeyed the wheel precisely and was a joy to steer. The 1.5m wheel on Lewmar cable steering makes helming a doddle and it gives the helmsman a variety of positions from which to steer – all of which feel safe and secure. Even in the gusts, the loads on the sheets and control lines were all manageable, the mainsail could be winched in or released from the helm and with an autopilot and two crew, handling the asymmetric would be possible.

Because of her racing heritage, friction on lines is reduced wherever possible and there’s plenty of room in the cockpit for the crew to go about their business easily, and without impeding others. Although she’s fast, her sail area is still manageable thanks to her light displacement and high-quality deck gear which includes Dyneema halyards, 12:1 purchase on Harken towable genoa cars and Antal V-cam rope clutches. All these help to make sailing the J/112e a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
