2. Ask nicely

Approach with warps and fenders rigged. If there’s somebody in the cockpit of the ‘host boat’, they’re probably avoiding eye contact hoping you won’t choose them. Call out the yacht’s name. Ask to raft up and be ready for the usual rebuttal about leaving early. If you are planning a nice lie-in, there are two choices. One is to go elsewhere, the other is to say equably, ‘That’s fine. Give us a knock ten minutes before you leave. We’ll let you go, then come back in.’ You can’t really do anything else, so be graceful.
