Raymarineʼs radar is a good use of Wi-Fi
I feel Duncan Kent missed a feature of the Quantum radar’s Wi-Fi connection. When installing with an ethernet cable Raymarine is not in favour of a deck plug. This usually means the cable goes through a deck gland to a connection box below. This is inconvenient when you want to lower the mast.
If a Wi-Fi connection is used all you need is a power supply cable, which means a deck plug will be fine. Wi-Fi has improved considerably in recent years and there shouldn’t be much interference at sea. It would be useful to evaluate the reliability of Wi-Fi on a boat. Wired connections are not without their problems. William Boaden
