Stay aware of sea state

While the crew is ashore, wave action could intensify even if the wind remains constant. A rising tide may cover offshore rocks or banks, leaving the beach more exposed, and swell is influenced by the tidal stream because a current flowing along a coast refracts the waves either towards or away from the shore. Therefore the skipper should stay alert to any change in sea state, particularly when the tidal stream is due to reverse.
