Lessons learned from the Titanic
The concept behind Peardrop is not new. Barry Bucknell designed the Puffin dinghy on similar principles and early in the 20th Century Engelhardt collapsible lifeboats worked in the same way. There were four Engelhardts on the Titanic but not stowed close to the davits. Even so, they saved some lives and after that disaster passenger liners quickly increased their lifeboat capacity by carrying one Engelhardt under each rigid lifeboat, to be launched by the same davits.
