A proper fiddle

-

There’s many a cooker that doesn’t have a real fiddle rail. Some top-of-the-line units do boast fiddles, but most have the grill hidden in the oven, which strikes them off my list of desirable gear.

How can a sailor go to sea without fiddles that work? It beats me. My last three cookers have all had custom fiddles. I measure up, then toddle along to my local stainless steel fabricator (not marine) who makes one out of flat bar for pennies. Bolt it on and you’re done. All that’s needed to finish the job is some Taylor’s clamps. Now you can get a decent pan on the hob to keep the lid on your crabs or maintain a proper five-day stew.
