If you’d like a bit more speed there’s the option of a carbon rig with the cruisers’ penalty of a deeper draught. Then you need to decide how many heads compartments you want: do you mind sharing or would you like your own? Finally how many aft cabins you want? Only you know how many people you actually sail with, as opposed to the number of you think you might sail with – if your kids bring their respective partners along and all want to go sailing at the same time. I would find the loss of cockpit stowage too much, but then again I’m not you.
You don’t need to be into, or harbour dreams of, racing to enjoy the Dehler. Yes, she can race but to cruise swiftly is sometimes all one could really ask for – well, that and a bit of wind of course.
