Landmark safety deal for Oyster
The design, materials and build quality of hulls and decks on all Oyster yachts will be approved by Lloyd’s Register.
The luxury yacht builder has begun construction on its first in-house mould production facility at its Norfolk boatyard, which will create 20 jobs when it opens in September.
The deal means that every week, a Lloyd’s Register surveyor will inspect all yachts in production, resulting in Lloyd’s Register Moulding certificates being issued for all new Oysters.
The strategic partnership between Oyster and Lloyd’s Register means Oyster will become the only British builder of sub-24m yachts to carry out such high-level certification.
It also draws a line under the Polina Star III incident in 2015, where the yacht sank. The unsettled claim relating to the yacht’s loss contributed to Oyster going into administration earlier this year. New owner Richard Hadida stressed a repeat of the incident ‘would never happen’.
