Are you having MSI broadcast problems?
Some boaters are not receiving MSI broadcasts
Sailors who are having difficulties receiving the UK Coastguard’s Maritime Safety Information (MSI) VHF weather broadcasts are being asked to report it.
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) said that it had been contacted by several boaters who have had problems with receiving weather report transmissions.
Since September 2017, MSI has been broadcast every three hours on VHF channels 62, 63 or 64. The service is run by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and includes up-to-date weather information and navigation warnings.
The RYA, which is working with the MCA, has now launched an online feedback reporting form that will allow sailors to record their experiences.
When collated, this information will give the RYA and HM Coastguard valuable feedback on the overall state of the MSI broadcast, and highlight if there are any regional variations in coverage. Find the form at www.rya.org.uk/go/msi-vhf-feedback.
