The site will send out an alert when servicing or other maintenance needs to be carried out

Sailors are being invited to sign up to the free Myboat website to activate reminders about maintenance.

The site is run by GJW Direct, the boat insurance company, and to date has only been available to motor cruiser owners but has now been extended to include all boat owners.

Users can upload their boat details, including the dates of maintenance, such as an engine service, and reminders will then be sent via email or SMS message. It also has a kit list function, which can be used to store details of the equipment on board, when it was bought and when it needs replacing.

GJW Direct said the service is universally available, although those who have insurance with the firm will be able to access exclusive offers.

It said that details entered onto the Myboat website – myboat.gjwdirect. com – are password protected and can only be accessed by the user.
