Tributes fol­low­ing Cowes Week death

A yachts­man who died while rac­ing at Lendy Cowes Week has been named.

Wayne Rogers, who was mem­ber of Hayling Is­land Sail­ing Club, was res­cued by a fel­low RS Elite com­peti­tor, af­ter he fell over­board dur­ing a race on 10 Au­gust. He was rushed ashore by the race’s safety RIB and taken to St Mary’s Hos­pi­tal in New­port, but was later pro­nounced dead. Pay­ing trib­ute, the club’s com­modore, Nick Peters said Rogers was pop­u­lar and a ‘lovely man’ who ‘ended his days do­ing one of the things he ab­so­lutely loved, rac­ing in an ex­cit­ing Cowes Week.’
