Tributes following Cowes Week death
A yachtsman who died while racing at Lendy Cowes Week has been named.
Wayne Rogers, who was member of Hayling Island Sailing Club, was rescued by a fellow RS Elite competitor, after he fell overboard during a race on 10 August. He was rushed ashore by the race’s safety RIB and taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, but was later pronounced dead. Paying tribute, the club’s commodore, Nick Peters said Rogers was popular and a ‘lovely man’ who ‘ended his days doing one of the things he absolutely loved, racing in an exciting Cowes Week.’
