A scilly dream

Hav­ing sailed west along the south coast many times, the Isles of Scilly have re­mained tan­til­is­ingly out of reach for me on sev­eral oc­ca­sions, with hol­i­day lim­i­ta­tions and weather fore­casts con­spir­ing against us. Un­til last year’s golden sum­mer that is. We fi­nally made the pas­sage in al­most flat calm, ac­com­pa­nied by myr­iad ca­vort­ing dol­phins. It was in­deed the stuff of dreams.

It also means I can tick off at least one of the ma­jor coastal pas­sages around the Bri­tish Isles that stands as a true rite of pas­sage for any sailor...
