OUR OWN LITTLE ADVENTURE, KATELYN HUMPHREYS, 11

-

Dad, my sister Izzy and I left the comfort of the sofa and sailed from Turnchapel to Port Elliot. Bounty’s End became our home for two days.

Izzy and I sat in the bow and screamed out in delight as the icy water hit our feet. As the water calmed down and we felt sunlight on our windswept cheeks, jellyfish started to float by. First it was just one or two but in the end we couldn’t count them all!

Watching the jellyfish was exciting, but nothing could compare with going under the Tamar Bridge! As the sun started to set, we had supper, which was pasta, then we got out our sleeping bags, pillows and camping mats as well as the poles, cover and rope. The cover, which was a dark emerald green, acted like a blackout tent, becoming a cosy shelter.

Sleeping on Bounty was peaceful, as the waves slowly lapped against the sides of the hull, birds were flying back to their perches.

As we woke up, we pulled back the cover and decided to have breakfast, although it wasn’t easy: we broke three eggs and I dropped a fork in the water, but eventually we ate our poached eggs, ham and cheese.

After breakfast, we got into our swimming costumes and jumped into the water. Surprisingly, there were no jellyfish, but there was a huge mudbank! Izzy had spotted it too so we both swam towards it. As we walked up, the mud underneath us started to sink. Running down would make us sink more so I slid down on my front with Izzy behind me.

Once back on board we carried on, going under the bridge until we reached the festival at Port Eliot where we set up our tent and met our friends.

The rest of the week we had fun, doing workshops and swimming in the lake, but the best thing was camping on the boat in the great outdoors.
