The Dazcat range of sports cats are designed and built in Millbrook, Plymouth. Designer, Darren Newton is an expert at what makes a cat perform, as evidenced in his popular 10m (33ft) yachts that have evolved into the latest model, the 1095.

The builder, Multimarine constructs boats to order so many of them are customised along the way. The first 10m Dazcat was slightly less sporty than the 995 model introduced in 2014 — the latter being superseded by the even more performance orientated 1095 in 2017.

Constructed using a vacuum-infused foam sandwich comprising multi-axial E-glass fabric, Kevlar and carbon, and reinforced with vinylester and isophthalic polyester resin, the 995 was designed to be fast and exciting to sail, while still providing comfort and stability for less arduous cruising. She features tiller steering with daggerboards and kick-up rudders for beaching and comes with a choice of a 15hp outboard or two 10hp inboard diesels.

An alloy rig is standard, but there’s a taller carbon option available (D995R). The standard sail wardrobe includes a square-topped, fully-battened mainsail, selftacking jib and an asymmetric kite.

Below, the galley and navigation station are cleverly positioned halfway down into the hulls allowing them to offer views all round through the saloon windows, while retaining full standing headroom. The spacious U-shaped saloon seats eight and the table drops down to create a roomy double berth if needed. The hull berths aft are rather snug doubles and there is a heads with shower forward on one side, storage on the other. That said, the boats can be more or less customised to suit.

A good number of D10s and D995 cats have both raced and cruised extensively in all weather conditions with few problems. These versatile boats are stiff, stable and downright quick.
