HANSE 370/375
PRICE £60,000-£85,000 YEAR 2005-2012
The 370 was Hanse’s most popular cruising yacht, updated and restyled to the 375 incorporating a different deck and twin helms. Both have high freeboard, offset by a sleek coachroof. A long waterline, shallow underwater sections and ample beam make her an impressive performer under sail. Weight is minimised by balsa-core above the waterline and hull stiffness ensured by encapsulated foam stringers and beams. The two-cabin layout has a larger aft berth, leaving the remainder as stowage. The alternative was two identically sized aft cabins. The forecabin has a roomy vee-berth, ample floor space and two large lockers.
Opposite the U-shaped saloon dinette is a chart/coffee table between two seats. She has a large galley with ample worktop and stowage, twin sinks, fridge and a fullsize gimballed cooker/oven. Her moulded heads compartment has a shower stall and plenty of elbow room. Ventilation and natural light are good throughout.
The cockpit on the 370 is roomy and access to the water is provided via a removable helm seat. The twin-wheeled 375 has an open transom with a removable bar, but neither has a swimming platform. There are numerous lockers including one for a single gas bottle.
In order to maximise interior volume, the coachroof extends outwards, reducing side deck width. Her foredeck boasts a deep chain locker and electric windlass, while the bow roller is sturdy but offset by 25º.
Both sport a 9/10ths fractional rig with a deck-stepped, twin-spreader mast. Shrouds attach to a single deck plate each side, dissipating the rig loads via tie bars and fillets.
Sails included a fully battened mainsail and a 95% self-tacking, furling jib, although in-mast furling and a genoa were optional.
Under sail she is light, positive, fast and well balanced. She points well and the self-tacking jib makes tacking rapid and effortless. Off the wind she undoubtedly needs a genoa or cruising chute.
