WEATHER

-

The summers are generally warm and settled with light to moderate winds. Between Toulon and Marseille the prevailing wind is from the N-NW, but if not blowing strongly will be nullified by a sea breeze. The NW wind blows at Force 4-6 although at times when a full mistral is blowing it can often reach Force 8-10. The mistral is rightly a feared wind which blows out of the Rhone valley and can reach as far as Sardinia. Usually the strongest winds will last for 2-3 days, but the seas will remain somewhat lumpy. Sailors should keep a check on the forecasts and take early precautions if a mistral is forecast.

The Marin is a S-SE sea breeze which gets up mid morning and builds to Force 3-4, occasionally up to Force 6, but dies down at night.

It is more prevalent to the east of Toulon.
