Doing a runner

- David Pick

I was reminded recently of a visit we paid to Lamlash some years ago. My wife and I plus our daughter and her husband had chartered a Legend 35 out of Largs and a visitors’ mooring in Lamlash was our first night’s stop. We piled into the inflatable tender and rowed ashore to the pub where we enjoyed a good meal and some games of pool. When we eventually returned back on board I thanked my son-in-law for treating us to the meal, to which he replied, ‘I thought you paid!’

The outcome was that the following morning daughter and son-in-law rowed back to the pub where there was only a cleaner at home so a suitable deal was struck and money changed hands. I often wonder whether the publican got paid!
